Workspace and sharing

Your workspace at app.numasim.com is where your circuits live. They are saved to your account, so you can open them from any browser you sign in on. To get there from the editor, click the NumaSim logo.

Finding your way around

The sidebar has three places:

  • Home — your recent circuits and the New button. Home works without signing in too: it shows the circuit kept in this browser.
  • My documents — the circuits you own.
  • Discover (at the bottom) — the guided demos, courses, and every sample.

Click a card to open it in the editor in a new tab, so your workspace stays open in its own tab. Each card's ⋮ menu has the rest: Duplicate, Download a copy, Share…, Copy link, Rename and Delete on your own circuits, and Copy to my workspace on samples.

Creating a circuit

Click New (you need to be signed in):

  • Blank circuit opens an empty circuit in the editor, in a new tab.
  • Upload from computer… adds a .numasim.json file to My documents; click Open in the notice to edit it. See Saving and loading.
  • Import PSS/E… is coming soon.

To start from a sample, choose Copy to my workspace from the sample's menu, or open it and click Save a copy next to its name. A circuit you build without saving shows as Untitled circuit; click the name to save it to your workspace. On Home, its ⋮ menu has Copy to my workspace, which moves it there, and Delete, which gets rid of it for good.

A free account holds up to 3 circuits in My documents. At that limit, delete one to make room. It can build a circuit up to 51 electrical nodes or 200 components. At that size, delete a part to add another. A circuit that is already larger still runs, and you can change its parameter values. You cannot add, remove, or rewire parts in it. Pro, which raises the workspace to 300 circuits and lifts the circuit-size limit, is coming soon. See Plans & limits.

A workspace circuit can hold up to 4 MB of circuit data, which is far more than even large imported power-system cases need. A circuit too big to save there still runs, and you can download it.

Saving

A circuit in your workspace saves itself as you work. The icon next to its name in the editor shows where it stands (hover it for the words):

StatusWhat it means
Saved to workspaceEvery change is saved.
Saving…A change is on its way.
Not synced yetYou're offline. Keep working; changes sync when the connection is back.
Changed elsewhereYou saved it in another tab or browser while editing here. Click the icon, then Reload to get that version, or Make a copy to keep this one.
Shared with youSomeone else's circuit, opened through its link. Someone who isn't signed in can run it. Once signed in, changes stay in this tab until Save a copy.
Not saved to workspaceThe circuit is only in this browser.

To rename a circuit you own, click its name in the editor, or use Rename in the workspace.

Sharing

Each circuit has one link. It always opens for you, its owner. Turn on link sharing and it opens for anyone who has it. Only the owner can share a circuit, and only the owner can change that circuit.

Click Share in the editor, or Share… in the circuit's menu in the workspace, and turn Link sharing on. Anyone with the link can open and run the circuit.

Someone who isn't signed in can run the circuit and look at the results. Changing the circuit asks them to sign in.

Once they are signed in, they can try changes in their tab. Nothing is saved into your circuit. To keep their changes, they click Save a copy next to the circuit's name. That saves the circuit, with their changes, as a circuit of their own named "name (copy)", and they carry on in that. They can also Download it or Make a copy of it. Saving and downloading ask them to sign in. The copy counts toward their own plan's circuit limit, and your circuit stays as it is. On a free account, a copy over 51 electrical nodes or 200 components still runs, and they can change its parameter values. They cannot add, remove, or rewire parts in it. See Plans & limits. If they close the tab before saving a copy, their browser asks first. Handy for a class: everyone gets their own copy to change.

Only send the link to people you want to see the circuit. Turn link sharing off and the link works only for you again. New circuits start with link sharing off. A circuit someone shares with you doesn't appear in your workspace: keep its link, or save a copy.

Copying the link. Copy link in the Share dialog, the link button next to Share in the editor (on wider screens), and Copy link in the workspace all copy the circuit's link, and say who it opens for. Only the owner gets them; anyone else who clicks Share sees what they can do with the circuit.

If a link doesn't open, because the circuit was deleted or its owner turned link sharing off, NumaSim says so. If you aren't signed in, Sign in on that notice opens the link with your account.

Your account

Sign in with Google, or with an email address and password. Your account menu (your picture or initial, top right) has:

  • Profile — your name, email, plan, when you joined, and how you sign in. Accounts that sign in with a password can Change password here; this is your NumaSim password and never your Google one. If you only sign in with Google, there's no NumaSim password to change. Forgot your password? Choose Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and follow the link in the email to set a new one.
  • Switch account — sign out and straight back in as someone else.
  • Sign out — if a workspace circuit is open, you go back to the workspace.
