Courses
Structured, university-style courses that teach power-system engineering by building and running the models yourself. Each course is split into modules and chapters, every concept is paired with a circuit you open and run in NumaSim, and every chapter ends with problems and worked solutions.
Looking for how to drive the tool rather than the engineering behind it? That's the Guide — and Get started is the fastest on-ramp if you've never opened the app.
Who the courses are for
Practicing electrical engineers, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates who already know circuit theory and basic AC power, and who want to go deeper into how power systems are modeled and simulated. Each course states its own prerequisites on its syllabus page.
How a course works
- Read the theory. Each chapter derives the ideas from first principles — no black boxes.
- Run the lab. Worked examples come with an Open in simulator link that loads a ready-to-run circuit. You change a value, re-run, and watch the result move.
- Do the problems. Every chapter ends with problems. Solutions are tucked behind a toggle so you can check your work after trying.
Open in simulator is free
Opening and running any course circuit is free for everyone — no account needed. Editing or building your own needs a free account (up to the free size cap). See Plans & limits.
Available courses
- EMT Simulation of Power Systems — how electromagnetic-transient simulators represent a network, discretize its components, and march the full voltage/current waveform forward in time. Built around hands-on NumaSim circuits, from a first RL step response up through transmission lines, machines, and controls.
Short labs
Standalone walkthroughs that build one circuit end to end, for when you want a single result rather than a whole course. None are published yet; in the meantime the sample gallery covers similar ground with ready-to-run circuits.
- Rectifier ripple — walk through
samples/full_bridge_rectifierand explain output ripple in the scope. - PWM power control — author a switching converter from primitives and observe the duty cycle on the scope.
- Multi-rate subsystem — wrap a fast inner loop in a Subsystem and watch the rate-bridge signals.
More courses coming
Future courses in development include power-system protection (instrument transformers, relay elements, coordination) and power-electronics control. Want one prioritized? Let us know through the in-app chat.
