Noise Source

Pseudo-random noise with a set mean and standard deviation. Gaussian draws from a normal distribution; Uniform draws evenly from mean ± √3·σ, which has the same standard deviation. A sample time above zero holds each value for that long, which band-limits the noise; zero draws a new value every step. The same seed always gives the same sequence, in the browser and in the native simulator alike.

Parameters

ParameterTypeDefaultUnitsDescriptionID
DistributionChoice: Gaussian / UniformGaussian—Gaussian = normal distribution. Uniform = flat between mean − √3·σ and mean + √3·σ.distribution
MeanNumber0—Average value of the output.mean
σNumber0.1—Standard deviation of the output. A negative value is treated as its magnitude.std_dev
Sample timeNumber0s (also ms)How long each random value is held. Zero draws a new value every time step.sample_time
SeedInteger1—Starting point of the random sequence. Give two Noise Sources different seeds to make them independent.seed
